Mesoestetic Facial Peels
By Lisa Young – Salon Director
What does a facial peel do ?
A facial peel is a form of deep exfoliation that works at different layers of the skin to reveal younger more rejuvenated skin cells underneath. In addition, the act of exfoliation increases cell regeneration and restoration of collagen and elastin fibres.
There are 4 different levels of peels:
-
- Highly superficial.
- Superficial.
- Medium.
- Deep.
Skin peels are often referred to as “chemical peels”. This terminology sounds a bit scary but it’s not as bad as it sounds. The reference to “chemical” and “peeling” is somewhat misleading. Read on to understand more.
Does it mean my skin will peel ?
In most cases peels classed as highly superficial or superficial will experience little or no “peeling” of the skin. In fact, it’s more of a slight dryness or flaking as opposed to peeling. Normally you would expect little or some through the centre of the face but no worse than being slightly dry around your nostrils during a cold from constantly blowing your nose!
The medium class of peels are slightly different and you may experience a bit more flaking as well as some redness and swelling. It’s a bit like staying in the sun for too long, getting red and peeling, something we all have done at some time or another. It’s no worse than bad sunburn but the outcome is much better as it heals the skin in a controlled and safe way, without damaging the skin.
This normally subsides after a few days and after a few weeks your skin will look amazing. This is perfectly normal and means that your skin is healing and will promote results. Clients that have this treatment have had this explained and know what to expect and accept this as they know that it is better to experience this than the pigmentation that they have been suffering with and hiding with make up for many years.
Chemicals … what chemicals !
The reference to “chemical” is also very misleading. It sounds like a skin peel uses something severe like battery acid, but let us put your mind at rest. Even air and water consist of chemical elements according to the periodic table of elements. In chemical peels, ingredients are derived from natural sources such as:
-
- White Willow (aspirin) – salicylic.
- Citric acid – citrus fruit.
- Sugar cane – glycolic.
- Bitter almonds – mandelic acid.
- Soured milk – lactic acid.

Who is a facial peel suitable for ?
Mesopeel is suitable for treating many different skin types as well as skin concerns such as:
-
- Hyper-pigmentation – all types.
- Skin ageing – stages I-IV.
- Acne grades – 0 to 4.
If these are skin problems that you can relate to, a facial peel may be a great treatment option for you.
What are the benefits of having a skin peel?
After a skin peel, your skin will appear younger, hydrated and luminous.
The great thing about Mesopeel is that each peel can be tailored to suit your skin’s needs.
Depending on your skin’s needs and the peel selected for you, a peel will:
-
- Purify and oxygenate your skin, leaving it free of impurities.
- Create a luminous look to the skin.
- Close open pores and improve texture.
- Addresses the effects of skin ageing such as softening fine lines & wrinkles.
- Even skin tone.
- Lighten dark spots & pigmentation.
- Reduce the appearance of acne and improve the appearance of scars, including post inflammatory pigmentation.
A peel can be carried out as a one off treatment for special occasions or for general skin health. However, with certain more severe skin problems, your treatment outcome expectation may require you to have multiple treatments.
We recommend a course of six to really benefit your skin and for you to get the best results.
